1924년 라틴 아메리카에서는 콜롬비아에서 일하는 예수회원들이 하나의 관구를 조직하였다.
1926년 아르헨티나의 다섯명의 신부들은 파라과이의 수도 아순시온에서 소규모로 선교를 시작하였다.
그들은 많은 호응을 받았으며, 많은 성공을 거두었기에,
예수회원들이 다시 파라과이에 돌아올 수 있도록 허락까지 받았다.
"158년이 지난후에야, 다시 한번 회원들은 정복지에서(Reduction) 일하게 되었다."
1927년 중앙 브라질의 부관구와 남쪽 브라질 관구가 결합했다.
1925년 벨기에에서 서품받은 멕시코 예수회 신부인
미구엘 어거스틴 프로(Miguel Agustin Pro)는 멕시코로 되돌아 갈 수 있도록 장상으로부터 허락을 받았다.
사실 멕시코에서는 Plutarco Elias Calles 대통령에 의해서 가톨릭 신자들에 대한 박해가 점 점 증가되어가고 있었다.
1926년 7월, Pro 신부가 도착한지 한달 후에 Calles 대통령은 모든 공적인 찬양을 억압했고, 모든 교회의 문을 닫아 버렸다.
이제 모든 가톨릭 사제들은 범죄자가 되었다.
멕시코 시티에서 가족과 함께 살고 있던 Miguel Pro 신부는
그의 두 형제인 Humberto과 Roberto Pro의 도움으로 사제직을 비밀리에 계속 할 수 있었다.
그들은 종교적 항변의 연대를 위한 문학을 인쇄하고 나눠주는 일에 열정적이었다.
1927년 11월 13일 일요일, 멕시코의 전대통령인 General Alvaro Obregon에 대한 암살 시도가 있었다.
그 시도에 사용된 차가 과거에 Pro 신부의 형제들의 것이었다가 팔린 것이었다.
그 세 명의 형제들은 숨었다, 그리고 미국으로 도망 갈 계획을 세웠다.
그러나 11월 22일 밤에 경찰은 한 가톨릭 신자의 집에 숨어 있는 그들을 발견하였다.

Calles 대통령은 반항하는 사제를 어떻게 다뤄야 할 지에 대한 기회를 포착하게 되었다.
그래서 1927년 11월 23일 아침 그 사형집행에 언론들을 초대했다.
아침 10시 30분경, 군인이 Miguel Agustin Pro를 감옥 마당으로 데려왔다.
그리고 자신이 죽으리라는 사실을 알지 못했지만,
그를 향해 총을 겨누고 있는 군인들 앞에 섰을 때 그것을 알게 된 그는
십자가의 형태로 팔을 뻗으면서 발사 명령과 동시에 "Viva Cristo Rey"라고 외쳤다.
그리고 그날 이후로 멕시코의 모든 어린이들은 매우 어려서부터 그 말을 배우게 되었다.
그의 형제인 Humberto는 세 째인 Roberto가 오전 11시경에 현장에서 용서받고 집에 돌아가기 직전에 처형되었다.
Obregon 전대통령의 암살을 뒤에서 조정했던 Luis Segura는 Pro형제의 이야기를 전해듣고 스스로 자수했다.

Son of a mining engineer. From childhood he was known for high spirits and cheerfulness, and he grew up in a pious home. Born to privilege, he had great affinity for the poor and working classes. Jesuit novice at 20. Exiled during the Mexican revolution. Ordained in Belgium in 1925 at age 36. Victim of recurring stomach disorder. Returned to Mexico in 1926, a time when churches were closed, priests were in hiding, and persecution of the Church was policy. Father Miguel used disguises to conduct an underground ministry, bringing the comfort of charity and the sacraments to the faithful.
Falsely accused in 1927 of a bombing attempt, Pro became a wanted man, was betrayed to the police, and without trial, he was sentenced to death. The photograph on this page was taken the day of his martyrdom. As he was about to be shot, he forgave his executioners, refused a blindfold, and died shouting "Love live Christ the King!" The government prohibited a public funeral, but the faithful lined the streets when his body passed.

Guadalupe, in Messico, e un luogo universalmente noto: e qui che, il 9 dicembre 1531, la Madonna apparve all’indio Juan Diego, oggi Santo.
Proprio a Guadalupe, il 13 gennaio 1891, nasce Michele Agostino Pro; il padre e ingegnere minerario e, consentendo al figlio di visitare le miniere, contribuisce alla formazione in lui di un’acuta sensibilita alla triste realta di quella dura vita e ai problemi sociali in genere.
Nella famiglia Pro si rivela una vena religiosa che porta abbondanti frutti: le due sorelle maggiori pronunciano i voti; nel 1911 Agostino entra come novizio nella Compagnia di Gesu, presso la quale compie i suoi studi, recandosi anche in Nicaragua, in Spagna e in Belgio.
Qui, il 30 agosto 1925, viene ordinato sacerdote ad Enghien; l’anno successivo ritorna in Messico, dove e in corso una spietata persecuzione contro la Chiesa: Padre Pro e costretto a compiere la vita religiosa nella clandestinita, ricorrendo a continui camuffamenti per sfuggire ai militari.
Incurante dei rischi, superando inoltre i problemi che gli derivano dalla fragile costituzione, si prodiga sia nelle attivita assistenziali che in quelle pastorali, arrivando a distribuire anche 1500 comunioni al giorno.
Dotato di una natura gioiosa e di un acuto humour, sa catturare l’attenzione della gente con la sua chitarra, le canzoni e le battute di spirito, ma soprattutto con l’assistenza spirituale e materiale: il suo sacerdozio e speso per stare vicino a chi si trova nel bisogno e nella sofferenza.
In una composizione del 1927, dichiara di voler condividere con Gesu il Calvario e la Croce.
Sono parole premonitrici: viene arrestato con l’accusa di aver preso parte ad un attentato contro il generale Alvaro Obregon, che aspirava alla presidenza della Repubblica; in realta, Agostino non aveva mai condiviso azioni violente, guidato dalla morale della fede e dal rispetto dell’ordine costituito che gli era stato insegnato in famiglia.
Non viene istruito un regolare processo, ne si tiene conto delle testimonianze che provano la sua innocenza: il 23 novembre 1927 viene trascinato davanti al plotone di esecuzione.
Si raccoglie in preghiera, nella mano destra ha il Crocefisso, nella sinistra il Rosario, e in piedi di fronte ai soldati, incrocia le braccia: le sue ultime parole sono “Viva Cristo Re!”.
“E’ cosi che muoiono i giusti”, mormora uno dei suoi carnefici.
Ventimila persone, sfidando le autorita, partecipano ai suoi funerali a Citta del Messico.
Padre Michele Agostino Pro e stato beatificato da Papa Giovanni Paolo II il 25 settembre 1988; viene ricordato il 23 novembre.
