안나 마리아 안토니아 제수알다는 1769년 5월 29일 시에나에서 태어났다.
그의 부친은 약종상이었는데, 사업이 망하여 가난에 찌들게 되자, 그들은 로마로 이주하여,
안나 부모는 가정부로 들어갔고, 안나 자신은 가난한 어린이를 교육하는 단체에 보내졌다.
13세의 어린 나이로 그녀는 소녀 가장이 되었다.
면사 공장에서도 일했고, 귀족 집의 하녀로도 일해야 하였다.
그러다가 처녀로 성장하면서 옷을 탐하고 아름다움을 쫒으려다가,
마침내 1790녀에 도미닉 따이지란 청년과 결혼하게 되었으나,
그 때부터 무슨 일이든지 되는 일이 없었다고 한다.
그래서 그녀는 사제에게 총고백을 하고부터는 마음을 일신하였다.
그녀는 수년 동안 천주의 종 수도회의 안젤로 신부에게 고해를 보고 또 영적 지도를 받았는데,
늘 갓 회개한 사람처럼 자신의 죄를 깊히 뉘우치고, 헛된 것을 끊어버리고는 세속적인 모든 쾌락을 추호도 탐하지 않았다고 한다.
안나는 바느질 품삯으로 남편의 적은 수입을 도왔고, 가정에 충실하였다.
한편, 영신적으로는 굉장한 수준에까지 올랐다.
하느님은 그녀에게 놀라운 기적까지 허락하셨고, 탈혼하는 경우도 있었으며, 예언하는 힘을 주셨다.
그러나 만년에는 사탄의 간교와 영적인 무미건조함으로 큰 고통을 받기도 하였다.
그녀는 1837년 6월 9일. 68세의 일기로 운명하였고, 교황 베네딕도15세에 의해 1920년에 시복되었다.

안나 마리아는 도미니코 타이지라는 짐꾼과 결혼을 했고 일곱 자녀를 낳았다.
성녀는 특별히 예언의 은사를 받았다.
추기경, 왕후들, 갑부, 그리고 가난한 이들등 온갖 불의의 사람들이 끝임없이 성녀의 집에 모여들었다.
성녀는 어느날 가시관으로 된 태양에 현시를 보았고 그때부터 심한 육체적인 고통속에 숨졌다.

This is a saint to think about when vacuuming the carpets, washing dishes and changing a baby's diaper gets to be a little much. Anna Maria Taigi did allthese things day after day but then one day she decided to totally turn her life into one of prayer and as close a union with God as she could. Soon after her resolve to do this a miracle touched her life that would last until her death.
She was only 21 when it happened. A golden globe appeared to her like a blazing sun crowned by a circle of thorns. In this light she was to see not only everything that would help her to gain her own perfection but all things both physical and moral in the world about her. She saw the most secret thoughts of people nearby or far off, she had merely to think of a thing and this golden orb would illuminate to her every possible detail involved.
The more she devoted her life to penance and holiness the clearer would this light become. God gave her this wondrous gift not for her own use - but to guide Popes and Saints, Kings and Queens and countless souls to greater holiness. She did all this while remaining in her home, darning socks, soothing crying babies and cooking inviting meals for her husband to enjoy after a tiring day of serving in the Chigi Palace.
